January is the perfect time to de-clutter your skincare shelf (or cupboard, in my case) and start afresh with products that will really make a difference to your skin. Recently, I’ve become obsessed with Ecooking, a Danish skincare brand that uses organic and natural ingredients to formulate products that really make a difference to your skin.
I interviewed Ecooking founder Tina Søgaard to find out more about this chic, Scandi cool brand.
An Interview With Ecooking Founder Tina Søgaard
Q: Hi Tina, thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me. Tell me how you started Ecooking and why?
A: “I was inspired to create my own skincare due to a personal crisis. My skin fell apart and looked more tired and grey than ever before, which wasn’t helped by the fact that I lost a lot of weight."
"Frustrated by ineffective skincare products on the market, I took some raw materials from the laboratory (Tina had years of experience in the industry before she launched her own brand) and started to create my own concoctions at home in my kitchen."
Q: What makes Ecooking different to other skincare brands?
We don't think like other skincare brands.
A: "Ecooking is not trend‐led: there is no overall concept to the products and no key ingredients. Each product has been created to target a specific problem. We don't think like other skincare brands. There’s truly something for everyone whether it be for you, babies or even your dog!"
Q: How did you know that a clean beauty brand would be successful and what gave you the motivation to go out on your own?
A: "To be honest, I never intended on launching a brand. Family and friends began asking for bespoke products for their own skincare needs. I started to create scrubs, creams and lotions (whatever they needed) and adding these formulations into Tupperware boxes, jam jars, and schnapps glasses! A local boutique then got in touch out of the blue to enquire about becoming an official stockist and the rest, as they say, is history: Ecooking was officially born."
I felt strongly about launching a brand that was honest and transparent.
"Knowing how polluted the environment is, I wanted the product range to be as pure as possible. The formulations are subsequently made of 100% organic oils, combined with the highest quality natural peptides and vitamins. The range is paraben‐free and vegan certified (excluding natural beeswax in our Lip Balms and Multi Balm). I felt strongly about launching a brand that was honest and transparent. As a result, all of the ingredients are listed on each and every bottle. In fact, a selection of products within the range are so pure they’re perfectly safe to eat."
Q: Since starting Ecooking, what has been your most rewarding memory?
A: "There have been so many great moments over the last three years, so that’s a tough question to answer and to pick just one."
"If I had to choose, I would say the evening in London when we won our first Allergy Award after only having been in business for a little over a year. Another great moment was when we learnt that Ecooking would be stocked in Denmark’s largest cosmetic retail chain."
Q: If you could only recommend one product from your whole range, what would it be?
A: "I, of course, love all of them! But if I had to recommend one, then I would choose Multi Oil."
"This oil is a multi‐tasking marvel; you can use it as a cleanser, make‐up remover, shaving oil plus a hair and body moisturiser. I also love adding it to bathwater when my skin deserves a much‐needed moisture‐boost!"
Q: Before we wrap up, any final tips on how to look after your skin?
It’s quite simple ‐ remember to cleanse and moisturize your skin every morning and evening.
