I asked our Glossies for their best hair tips and they didn’t disappoint. How often should you wash your hair? When is the best time to brush your hair? I answer all these questions with a little help from Glossies.
Here’s my pick of the best dos and don'ts of haircare...
When to brush
When is the best time to brush your hair? Well it’s certainly not when it’s wet because that's when your hair is at its weakest point and is more susceptible to breakage. Instead, dry your hair partially before brushing.
Don't brush hair when wet it's more damaging.
@odwyer_g
If you have naturally curly hair, use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush. This will help your natural curls to keep their shape, rather than going frizzy when they’re brushed out.
Always use a wide tooth comb. They're great for detangling hair.

Hair oil
Hair oil is a saviour for overworked hair and there are so many varieties to choose from!
Coconut Oil
I love coconut oil and what a multi-tasker it is too! The oil can be used in the kitchen as a healthy replacement for butter and margarine, as well as a deluxe beauty remedy that benefits both the hair and skin. Massage oil, makeup remover, a hair mask – you name it and you can use coconut oil. It's also wise to apply some oil before you go swimming if you're planning on getting your hair wet!
A tiny dab of coconut oil will protect your hair while swimming.

Argan Oil
My ultimate favourite has to be Argan oil. I use the Moroccanoil Treatment on the ends of my hair after washing. It completely transforms my hair! Afterwards it’s easy to brush through and it speeds up drying time. Win, win! @shazabella38 even uses it before washing to keep her hair shiny and straight for longer.
Almond Oil
Hannah even loves almond oil! It’s also a less pricey alternative. Try the KTC Almond Hair Oil 200ml, £1.49.
Apply pure almond oil to your tips before bed to nourish and soften, just rinse off in the morning for an amazing overnight mask! ?

Cold water
After conditioning your hair, blast it on the cold shower setting. Cold water helps to seal your hair cuticle, making it lay smoothly.
I think we all know cold water is key to great hair ?✨

Hair masks
I love hair masks and using one once a week is a great place to start for great hair. Paige (@paaigemeatsix) recommends using a hair mask for the duration of your bath and then rinsing it out.
Have you ever tried a hot oil hair mask? The STARSKIN Coco-Nuts Nourishing Hot Oil Hair Mask does wonders for my hair. You just pop it in the microwave for 20 seconds, wait for it to cool slightly before massaging it from your roots to your tips. It's relaxing and the results are amazing!
Shampoo twice
I learnt this tip far too late in life and it's so simple - always shampoo twice. I like to use a clarifying shampoo followed by my purple shampoo (if my hair needs toning), or a smoothing shampoo like the Maria Nila 'soft' range in this month's box!
Wash your hair with shampoo twice before conditioning, it leaves your hair softer and lighter.
@lovattlaura
Don’t over wash
Now you're shampooing twice, which helps to remove build up, you shouldn't be washing your hair everyday. Aim for a maximum of three times per week because you don't want to strip the natural oils in your hair away.
Washing your hair twice a week makes it stronger, healthier and the shine is just wow. ?

Styling your hair
Glossies had great tips for blow-drying and styling their hair too...
- Protect your tresses by using heat protection spray or mousse on your hair before blow drying or straightening @cj02roo.
- Always angle your hairdryer downwards to help fight frizz @alexx21150.
- We love @geopaige's tip: Curl hair with straighteners, turn your head upside down, brush through with your fingers until the curls turn to waves, blast with hairspray and do a bit of back combing…..then boom! Your hair looks gorgeous Georgia!

Accept your hair type
Finally, accept your hair type, don't fight it. @beauticiaadams suggests getting to know your hair, loving it and treating it right - "you can't change its natural texture or thickness but you can work with it and get it in tip top condition".
You can still get the 'Daydreamer' May box that features the gorgeous Maria Nila shampoo and conditioner! Subscribe today.
I love your Glossy tips. Keep them coming in!
