Winter is a beautiful time, not just because of Christmas and all the sparkly lights and decorations, but also the scents. Crisp greens, smoky woods and sticky fruits, which all combine beautifully into some of the most mysterious, yet wearable, perfumes around.

If you’re used to something slightly lighter the choice can be intimidating, switching up your fragrance in winter adds a whole new dimension to your style. Here are some of the best…

Fan of Daisy by Marc Jacobs? Well, your favourite floral scent has been given a festive upscale and let us tell you, this is one bottle you'll want to add to your fragrance lineup pronto. In a choice of three metallic hues - gold, red and pink - Marc Jacobs Daisy Shine Edition, £80, is inspired by vintage holiday ornaments. Calvin Klein has also given its much-loved CK One the golden touch for Christmas via CK One Gold, £26.67. Aside from the beautiful bottle, the scent it utterly addictive and layers fresh and woody notes of fig, neroli and vetiver. Alternatively, Cartier La Panthere Edition Soir, £98, is the perfect party scent. Perfumer Mathilde Laurent created an updated version of the iconic classic, with a more intense musky base under its beautiful floral bouquet.

Winter doesn’t come in any more beautiful form than this bee-adorned bottle. L'Artisan Parfumeur Arcana Rosa 9, £140, pays tribute to the delicate Bulgarian rose. The aroma is heady and complex, combining the fragrant note of this flower with cedar, sandalwood, vetiver and juniper. Containing the rich, festive spirit of rum at its heart, Estée Lauder Modern Muse Nuit, £50, is also blended with quintessentially floral jasmine for a scent that’s mysteriously beautiful. If you’re drawn towards the lighter notes of florals, but want to try something more intense, there’s no better choice than Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, £54. Ginger, rose and amber melt together for a sensual veil of scent.

Think log fires, log cabins and the intensity of a wood burner. These are the warm heart of Byredo Super Cedar, £90. The top notes of rose mean this starts of light and mysterious and then melts into your skin with a richness and woody intensity. Jo Loves Smoked Plum and Leather, £65, is as deep and mysterious as winter scents get. Think worn, soft leather with rich, juicy plums in a fragrance that warms into skin. O for a relatively sweet scent with a woody edge, Zadig & Voltaire This Is Her, £38, mixes top notes of jasmine over a sensual heart of vanilla chestnut and a trailing base of sandalwood.
