Kick starting her career as Tina in Coronation Street, model and actress Michelle Keegan has since been ranked as one of FHM's 100 sexiest, launched her own clothing line with renowned fashion brand Lipsy and been appointed Revlon's UK Social Influencer - so it's safe to say she has a jam-packed schedule.
We chatted to her about makeup, the red carpet and Jessica Alba (who seems to be a running theme when it comes to inspiring others)...
What beauty products do you never leave the house without?Revlon’s All-In-One mascara is a must have! It reaches all the lashes you can’t always get to with a normal mascara and it just does everything – lengthens, defines, adds volume – it is brilliant! Carmex is also a great one for under lipstick. I am using the Ultra HD Matte Lip from Revlon all the time at the moment, I just love the smell of it and the great colour it provides.
How do you balance everything - especially being in the spotlight? I always make time for friends and my family even when I’m busy with work. If I’ve been filming for a while and have a weekend off, I’ll do something nice with the girls like go out for a lunch or have everyone round to my house.
Who inspires you the most? I absolutely love Jessica Alba, she really is a dream girl! She always looks so laid back but still beautiful and effortlessly chic. I also look up to Victoria Beckham as she’s worked really hard and built an incredible career.
What makes you feel empowered? When I am wearing a bold lip! The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Seduction definitely gives me a feeling of empowerment! Also when my skin is looking amazing and my hair is glossy!
What advice would you give your younger self? In terms of beauty, definitely not doing a strong eye and a strong lip at the same time! Less is more when it comes to makeup – I used wear too much and looking back it wasn’t a great look! I now go for a more natural base and add a bold lip or a smokey eye when I’m on the red carpet.
What would you say your 3 biggest achievements are?Coronation Street (for kick starting my acting career), becoming the UK Social Ambassador for Revlon (a dream come true!) and launching my own line with Lipsy.
What advice would you give someone wanting to follow in your footsteps? Working hard! And don’t be afraid of rejection, you need a thick skin for this industry but it is so worth it for getting to do what you love every day.
What mistake do you often see people making when they're working their way to the top? People getting too caught up when things start to go well. There are ups and downs in everyone’s career so you should always be humble as you never know what will happen next!
Do you have a saying in life that you swear by? No regrets! Oh, and everything in moderation!
You'd be lost without...? My family, friends and our dogs!
What do you like to do on your days off? When I have a day off I love taking the dogs for a walk, being able to wear my comfortable clothes and staying in on the sofa with a takeaway.
On a scale of 1-10, how hard to you have to work to keep yourself in shape? Oooh that is hard as I tend to put off going to the gym, any excuse not to go! I find it a bit boring and so I just do it when I have to. I would say probably say a 7.
Work-wise, what's coming up for you in the year ahead? I am currently in South Africa filming BBC’s ‘Our Girl’, which has been amazing so far! I have my clothing range with Lipsy, and some more exciting news with Revlon so watch this space.
