It seems Pantone, authority in all things colour, are thinking along the same 'year of more' lines as us this year by naming not one but two colours for the year ahead. That's right, it's time to say farewell to the rich tones of 2015's Masala and welcome in January by heralding the brand spanking new colour(s) of 2016 - Rose Quartz, a 'warmer embracing rose tone' and Serenity, a 'cooler tranquil blue'.
In a nod to gender equality, the combination of pastel blue and pink hues are set to foreshadow upcoming trends, from clothing to makeup. And while they may seem a little baby shower-esque at first, once dusted across your eyes, painted on your lips or slicked on your talons there's no going back. You will be a convert to the calming, peaceful vibe both shades give off.
So, to help you make your own beauty statement over the next twelve months, we've selected some products to help you covet the colours of 2016 in our favourite way, via makeup...
Rose QuartzThe gentle tone works wonders on cheeks for a flushed finish, as seen on the catwalks of countless spring/summer 2016 fashion week shows. We love: Clarins Ombre Minerale Eyeshadow in Golden Rose, £17.50; Topshop Lipstick in Saint, £8; Barry M Nail Polish in Ballerina, £2.99 and Sleek Highlighting Palette Midas Touch, £9.99
SerenityBlue was seen washed across the eyelids of many a model at the spring/summer 2016 shows and by the looks of things, it's a colour that is here to stay. Weightless and air, Serenity is a great way to adorn a more subtle take on the trend. Bringing with it a comforting, calming effect, we're also painting it on our nails and, believe it or not, using it as highlighter too. We love: RMK Ingenious Powder Eyes in 03, £15 at Selfridges; Models Own Hyper Gel in Cornflower Gleam, £4.99 and Sleek Highlighting Palette Midas Touch, £9.99
