Calling all Glossies who live in London or other major cities, this one is for you. Have you ever noticed how pollution has terrible effects on your hair, making it greasier and dirtier a lot faster? Well, I’ve got the simple, four-step pollution-proof ritual for you, as recommended by Only Curls founder Lizzie Carter!
1. Exfoliate Your Scalp To Pollution-Proof Your Hair
Did you know that pollution clogs up your pores and makes your hair more oily? Add to that the dirt and dust that naturally settles on your roots and you’ve got an itchy scalp and a greasy build-up that makes your hair more prone to breakage.
Exfoliate your scalp once a week to eliminate clogging impurities and to leave your hair cleaner for longer!
Luckily though, you can easily remedy it. Simply exfoliate your scalp once a week using Grow Gorgeous’ Scalp Detox. Formulated with castor oil beads, white willow bark extract and pomegranate fruit enzymes, it gently exfoliates your scalp, eliminating clogging impurities, dandruff, dry skin and product build up. It really does help your hair stay cleaner for longer!
2. Focus On Your Roots When Shampooing
This is a bit of a tricky one Glossies. You need to shampoo your hair every other day (if not every day) to reduce the effects of pollution, but washing your locks every day can dry them out. So what's a girl to do?
The first step you can take to avoid dryness is to change the way you’re washing your hair. When lathering your shampoo, focus on your roots, then let the shampoo run through the rest of your hair as you rinse. This technique cleans the ends (i.e. the driest section of your hair) much more gently.
Use a moisturising shampoo to stop pollution from drying out your hair!
You could also try switching to a sulfate-free shampoo. I’d recommend the Only Curls All Curl Cleanser. Blending avocado with kukoi oil, it cleanses your hair without stripping it of its natural oils, leaving it more moisturised and smelling incredible. After just one use, my hair looked nourished, shinyand a lot less frizzy!
3. Use Conditioner After Every Wash
When you’re in a rush, it can be quite tempting to skip your conditioning treatment, but this is one of the most important steps to pollution-proof your hair. You should use a protein-rich moisturiser after shampooing, as well as a deeply hydrating hair mask once a week.
Conditioner is a must is you want soft, shiny and hydrated locks!
If you have curly hair and are looking for a new conditioner, the Only Curls All Curl Conditioner is a great choice. Infused with jojoba, coconut, avocado, kukui, argan and macadamia oils, it deeply moisturises your hair, leaving it soft, hydrated and bouncy! Honestly, my ringlets have never looked better.
4. Don’t Forget A Heat Protection Spray
With pollution already damaging your hair, you should try and avoid using too much heat on your locks, as this will weaken your hair even more. You can either embrace the natural look, or be sure to always use a heat protection spray before blow drying, straightening or curling your locks.
Pollution is damaging enough. Try to avoid using too much heat and weakening your hair even more!
I use the Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s invisible Oil Heat/ UV Protective Primer. It creates a protective barrier around each strand of hair, preventing breakage and dehydration. My hair always feels so soft afterwards!
And there you have it, four easy things to do every day to pollution-proof your locks!
