We don't know about you, but we love festival season. It gives us the opportunity to experiment and push the boundaries of beauty a little, whether that means opting for a gold mascara (yes, really), adorning your eyes in glitter or slicking on a coating of bright, almost florescent lippie.
For beauty lovers like ourselves, though, it can also prove a bit of a nightmare. The process of editing down your makeup to fit in a much smaller bag is tricky for starters - especially as you want to make cool and quirky additions to your usual line up, not cull things.
Oh, and then there's the fact the lack of a proper shower and an abundance of sleepless nights trudging through muddy fields and dancing in humid tents makes it somewhat of a challenge to stay looking our best. Especially if you've signed up to a 5 day extravaganza like Glastonbury, and are up against trying to conceal deep set bags and styling hair that's laden with dry shampoo.
Never worry though, as we've scoured the shelves and curated an edit of beauty products you need to add to your lineup, from bold makeup to the new breed of makeup wipes that will fully cleanse the day (and night) away...
Colour your lashes When it comes to our eyelashes, festivals call for a slick of colour. Blue brings out the whites of your eyes, so as well as looking pretty cool it's a delight for deflecting tiredness if your peepers are a tad bloodshot and Kiko's Super Colour Mascara in Sky Blue, £5.90, is the perfect hue. YSL's new Vinyl Couture mascara collection provides a whole host of colour to play with too, our favourite being the gold top coat, £25. Simple slick on your black mascara then apply a few coats of gold over the top for a metallic sheen. Alternatively, we applied black to our top lashes then gold to the bottom!
Join the glitterati MAC Cosmetics Reflects Glitter in Reflects Red, £16, is our new best friend and will without a doubt be coming to EVERY festival with us. It's far finer than your usual glitter and each shade is blended with pearl pigment and a hint of colour, so it imparts a beautiful shimmer on your face. There are so many ways to use it, from pressing it on top of your eyeshadow or building it up to create a solid block of glitter to dabbing it on your cheekbones or applying a little on top of your lipstick. The options are quite literally endless.
Palette powerAn eyeshadow palette is the way forward when it comes to packing light, as it offers us numerous options without having to take a battalion of different products. What's more, if you choose wisely the shades can be used for more than just shadow. MUA's Eyeshadow Palette in Glitter Ball, £4, has a mixture of colours, each infused with a little sparkle. From bright hues like green and purple to amp up your makeup aesthetic to a couple of neutral shades, you can create anything from a bronzed smokey eye to a block colour lid - or use the black pigment as an eyeliner! We're also big fans of Charlotte Tilbilry's Luxury Colour-Coded Eye Shadow Palette, £38, and although it's a little pricier, the combination of purple and pink colours are to die for. If you're not the best at applying shadow, this is the palette for you as the quad of colours comes with application instructions, from priming the lid to creating a smokey finish.
Lips A bright colour painted across your lips is a great way to draw attention away if you're looking a little tired. Illamasqua Lava Lips, £19.50, is a marbled lipstick specially designed to combine two of Illamasqua's highly pigmented shades in one. On application they blend together to create a whole new colour - and a bright one at that if you opt for Activist Deep Purple like we did.
FaceAlongside your base, you'll want to take a few different products to add a dash of colour to your cheeks. For this, we're again turning to palettes as they allow you to take multiple cheek products, from bronzers to blushers, in one foldaway compact. Stila Sunset Serenade Convertible Colour Dual Lip and Cheek Palette, £29, contains a variety of 5 shades to instantly add an injection of healthy colour to your complexion.
SkinFestivals are prime time for doing one of the biggest beauty faux pas around - not taking your makeup off. Luckily, there's a new breed of makeup wipes that totally have your back. They promise to cleanse your face and remove all specks of makeup, with minimal input involved. Delightful. Lauren Napier The Weekly Cleanse, £15, is a travel pack of 15 individually wrapped soft cleansing wipes to cleanse and remove even the most stubborn of makeup (glitter, we're looking at you). Enriched with vitamins, they also cool, soothe and hydrate your skin.
As it can get a little humid when you're dancing away in the middle of a tent, a facial spritz makes for a delightful addition to your daily festival bag - one of our favourite's being Clinique's Moisture Surge Face Spray, £22, while The Estée Edit's aptly named Late Night Eraser, £29, will instantly refresh and brighten your eye area.
